King Departs for China for Health Check-Up

PHNOM PENH: King Norodom Sihamoni departed for China today with Queen Mother Monineath Sihanouk for a medical check-up.

A special flight left from the Phnom Penh Airport on Monday morning, August 28, and was seen off by the former and current prime minister and many senior officials. The king generally makes two trips to China per year for health check-ups.

According to the Cambodian Constitution, the President of the Senate is the Acting Head of State when the king is abroad. The current president of the Senate is Say Chhum. In February, former prime minister Hun Sen is expected to take over as Senate president.
